Bryan West

Age: 34
Been with ORC since: April 2011

Proudest running moment:
Finishing my first marathon at the Napa Valley Marathon on March 6, 2011. I’d only been running for a year and 4 months at the time so it was a defining achievement for me. I’ve never seen anything as impossible since crossing that finish line. It was awesome coming across the finish line seeing my wife, mom and mother-in-law there cheering me on!

Hobbies/ Interests: Obviously running is close to the top! I am also a big football fan (Dallas Cowboys, K-State Wildcats and LSU Tigers) and a long-suffering Royals fan. I love animals and I love spending time with my wife and friends.
Volunteer work: I’ve done bell ringing with the Salvation Army, helping at Harvesters, and various fundraising things. I am currently trying to raise money for Team Red, White & Blue with my next marathon.
Why I run with the ORC: Before joining the ORC I did not have any friends locally that ran, so I had no idea what it was like to run with people. I have come to treasure the friendships I’ve made thanks to the club and I love running with my ORC pals at our club runs and seeing them at races. I love the support and advice I get. There are members from all experience levels so there is always someone that can give you advice if there is something you are struggling with. GO ORC!!!

The Olathe Running Club has been a dedicated organization in the community for the last 30 years.  We are a close circle of friends and runners who promote fitness and health. Our experience levels of runners include:
 
Walkers
Novice Runners (never have run before)
Intermediate Runners (5K, 10K, first time marathoners, half marathons)
Advanced runners (several marathons, triathlons)
 
In order to keep our runners running together we hold two weekly runs - Wednesday nights at 6:30 and Saturday mornings at 7:00.  After our runs we enjoy camaraderie at local restaurants.  It's a great way to promote fitness and make new acquaintances at the same time.
 
In 2009 we started our Olathe Running Club marathon training program where several members trained for their first marathon by implementing our Saturday morning runs and even training at a local high school track. We are looking forward to offering this program again in 2011.
 
Please contact us if you are considering taking your fitness to the next level and would like to meet fellow runners in Olathe who share the same goals that you do. We look forward to running with you.
